But I would like to tell you how I am a born-again Christian. It is because, in the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ has shown me that I was in embodiment when he was. And I think many of you were also. He showed me that I was Martha, the sister of Mary and Lazarus, and that this bringing of the Word and the mysteries of Christ to the people in this age is a part of a commitment I made to him in that hour.
The moment of being born again has been repeated by Christians ever since. It was a moment when Lazarus died and I said, “Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. Even so, I know that whatsoever you will ask of God, God will give it to you.”
And he said to me, “Thy brother shall rise again.”
And I said, “I know that he will rise again in the last day and in the resurrection.”
And then he gave me the words that are such a challenge because they are a statement of being, being as intense as the I AM THAT I AM but it’s at a new vibration. It’s at the level of the Son. This is what he said, “I AM the resurrection and the life. He that believeth on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
That “believest thou this” puts the entire responsibility upon the disciple. It doesn’t matter that he’s the resurrection and the life. It matters whether or not you believe it for your experience.
The answer I gave was this, “I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who should come into the world.” And forthwith, he raised Lazarus from the dead.*
I have never died since that experience. I’ve laid down one temple and picked up another, ever in the service of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I do not see any problem with understanding a universe of beings of light and sons and daughters of God who are walking the disciplined path of becoming that Christ, because he said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also, and greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father.”
We’re not doing the works of Jesus Christ, we’re not doing greater works and we kind of think that it would be having a little nerve to assume that we could. And in fact, we’re missing the boat of our spiritual evolution. That was a promise.
Each of these two quotes from him contains the word believe, and the word believe is contained over and over again. What is belief? It is not blind ignorance, but it is, in fact, a scientific principle, and this is the way it works. When I say, “I believe that thou art the Christ,” I’m looking at the Saviour, I’m giving adoration to the light within him, and I’m saying I believe that that light is incarnate within you.
Belief is an energy. It’s an arc of love that goes from my heart to his heart. The arc of that energy creates a current, the current that becomes an opening of the way. It is a requirement. It’s a requirement that I first initiate the current, then there is the current established by the returning current, then there is the igniting, the tremendous burst of my own Christ consciousness as this teacher, this ascended master teacher of the age, becomes now the inhabitant of my temple. I have acknowledged his light. Things equal to the same thing are equal to each other. Contained within me is the seed potential of that same Christ consciousness, which you see in the individual mediator, the Christ Self, depicted as the middle figure in the Chart of Your Divine Self.
So the energy that has exalted the Word within him, because I have accepted that it is real, now becomes my option. And so we see that this Christ-potential and the living Christ Jesus whom you see in this painting, the Chart of Your Divine Self, is the same, the one and the same.
Jesus showed me a vision. He showed me a great cathedral at inner levels. He was standing at the head of the church with Mary, with Gautama Buddha, with Saint Germain, with all sorts of those whom we think are incompatible in our outer limitation. Between myself and himself (and I was at the door) there were thousands of brothers and sisters of light. They were not yet ascended. Some of them were at inner levels, some in embodiment. But in this inner cathedral at inner levels we were one. And this is the meaning of the “communion of saints.”
The communion of saints is the coming together of people of a common light and a common dedication of all of the world’s religions. He said the inner name of the church is “Church Universal and Triumphant.” All world religions, all churches should be a reflection of that inner temple experience. When you go into a cathedral, you should have an inner memory of communing with life at inner levels.
He said, “You found my church. You call it that, but not because it is yours exclusively, but because it will serve to be an archetype for all people, who in their own freedom and their own individuality will also form these communities of the New Age all over the world.” He showed me that the word church is taken from the Greek word ecclesia, meaning “community of the called-out ones.” He also showed me, as he said, he came to find the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
